Week 3 coming to an end

Week 3 is coming to an end and I am pleased to see the school thriving.  I know Nov and Dec are historically slow months for schools due to the holiday season, but we’ve seen a huge growth in our student base.  A lot of students followed Cowboy and I to GWC, and we’ve added a mix of experienced grapplers and brand new students.  Our gym dynamic is awesome.  There is such a fun, humorous atmosphere in the gym which makes training so enjoyable.  Everyone shows up for classes motivated and in such a good mood, it is infectious.  The BJJ program is doing awesome, the wrestling class is seeing steady growth, and the mats were packed tonight for Joe’s striking class.

I am married to the gym.  I’m there in the mornings to take care of administrative work(check emails and phone messages) and any misc tasks that need to be done in the gym.  I break for lunch and head over to pick up the kids from school.  Then, I usually return to the gym 2 hrs before classes begin with Mylene to sweep the gym, make sure the restroom is in order, etc.

There was a learning curve the first few weeks when it came time to training and manning the front desk.  It seemed like as soon as I called open mat for everyone to get some rolling in, I’d get called to the desk in order to answer questions or sign up someone.  Don’t get me wrong, that is a GOOD problem to have, but I just love rolling with my students.  Things are finally starting to settle down and I’m starting to find balance in being the gym secretary and getting in some training with the fellas.  On top of that, I’m a full time college student.  So my plate is full, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  There is nothing but good vibes at the gym, I couldn’t be happier.
